Currently, if you have an issue with a telco, the public utilities commission will assist with dispute resolution. The problem with virtual entities, such as VoIP providers, is they&#039;re not a utility and therefore have zero oversight. We nearly experienced pain from this last year when our VoIP provider went bankrupt and almost released our DID numbers. The hoops I had to jump through to save them were... incredible...

If Google continues in the direction you imagine, I wonder if they would bow to such oversight?</description>

		<description>We&#039;re dependent on lots of companies for these types of things though: telecom companies to route our data, cell phone companies to beam our wireless data signals, all that.  I can easily imagine a time when Google has become a public utility like the phone companies.</description>
